OCUPLEX
Patented Antioxidant Nutrients for Healthy Eyes and Optimum
VisionOCUPLEX is an all-natural eye care formula designed to
help maintain healthy vision and eyes through the action of
various antioxidant nutrients, provided in a softgel for optimum
bioavailability and stability. Unlike other formulas, OCUPLEX
contains just the right amounts of nutrients so that it effectively
targets eye health and can also be safely combined with an appropriate
daily multivitamin-mineral supplement, such as PHYSICIAN’S
RX™ FORMULA, for complete nutritional support. OCUPLEX
is free of sugars, artificial colors and sugar alcohols.
Epidemiological studies indicate that diets rich in antioxidants
such as those contained in OCUPLEX (Vitamins C and E, Selenium
as well as Beta-Carotene and other Carotenoids including Lutein
and Zeaxanthin), are associated with a decreased incidence of
age-related macular degeneration. DHA (docosahexaenoic acid),
an essential omega-3 fatty acid, is also absolutely critical
for the health of the retina. Macular degeneration is an eye
condition in which there is gradual deterioration of a portion
of the eye’s retina called the macula (the area of finest
visual perception where the lens of the eye focuses an image).
Macular degeneration has become a major health care issue, as
it is the second most common cause of visual impairment in those
over 65.
Lutein and Zeaxanthin are two key nutrients in OCUPLEX which
appear to be more closely correlated with protection from macular
degeneration as well as cataract development. Both Lutein and
Zeaxanthin are highly concentrated in the macula of the eye
and responsible for filtering out visible blue light, which
may cause damage to eye tissue. Researchers believe that Lutein
and Zeaxanthin protect the macula from light-induced damage
by dying it yellow, thereby acting as our internal “natural
sunglasses”. As potent antioxidants, both Lutein and Zeaxanthin
also provide protection to eye tissue by neutralizing free radicals.
OCUPLEX contains nutrients (Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Tocotrienols,
Beta-Carotene - an antioxidant form of Vitamin A, other important
carotenoids, Selenium, and Bilberry), which are most beneficial
for optimal eye health as they provide protection from free
radical/oxidative damage that results from many normal metabolic
processes; exposure to oxidants in cigarette smoke; or environmental
factors.
Two
softgels of OCUPLEX supply:
Natural Beta-Carotene plus other Carotenoids (Betatene®)
– 8334 IU
Lipid Soluble Vitamin C (Ascorbyl Palmitate 100 mg)
– 44 mg. Ascorbyl Palmitate is a lipid (fat)
soluble form of Vitamin C, which might more effectively function
to block free radicals in the lipid portions of the cell.
Natural Vitamin E (D-Alpha and Mixed Tocopherols)
– 200 IU
Organic Selenium (Seleno-L-Methionine) – 70
mcg. Seleno-L-Methionine more rapidly elevates tissue
levels of this trace mineral than inorganic forms of selenium.
Patented Natural Lutein (FLORAGLO®) – 15
mg. Lutein belongs to the same family of compounds
(Carotenoids) as Beta-Carotene.
Patented Tocotrienol Complex (Nutriene®) –
20 mg. Tocotrienols are a group of Vitamin E compounds
with superior antioxidant power but relatively little biological
activity of Vitamin E. Tocotrienols have the ability to regenerate
other antioxidants such as Vitamin E and C as well as Glutathione.
Standardized Bilberry Extract (25 percent Anthocyanosides)
– 50 mg. Bilberry is known to accelerate the
regeneration of retinal purple (commonly known as visual purple),
a substance that is required for good eyesight.
Proprietary Base of high DHA Marine Lipid Concentrate
– 200 mg. DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid) is an
essential omega-3 fatty acid, which plays an important role
in retinal function.
